Program Description:
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
A cultural and culinary immersion exploring the foodways of Portugal and Spain. The course will develop students’ understanding of the Mediterranean diet, organic food systems, and the Portuguese and Spanish food culture in relationship to health promotion.  While abroad students will visit local markets, food factories, and eateries, and participate in regional cooking classes which are built upon course content.

ACCOMMODATION
All participants will be housed in shared hotel rooms throughout the duration of the program.
 
LANGUAGE
All instruction will be in English. No prior foreign language experience is required for participation in this program.

PROGRAM COSTS
In addition to the regular WCU tuition rates for the 3 credit hour course, all participants will pay a program fee of  $2,600.00 to WCU which includes all hotel accommodations, breakfast every day, three additional group meals, and all excursions/entrance fees for the duration of the program. All participants will also be billed the non-refundable $100 study abroad application fee through the WCU Bursar bill upon applying to the program.
 
Not included in the costs listed above are the round-trip airfare (estimated around $1,000), additional meals not provided by the program, international insurance ($25), and spending money.
