PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Two-week field experience to explore geologic features and learn about volcanic, glacial, and plate tectonic processes based on field locations around the island. Lectures from WCU instructor and local professionals incorporated into the course. Students will make field observations, keep field journal and complete on site exercises during the field trip. Group will visit University of Iceland Departments of Natural Sciences and Volcanology. Upon completion of the Iceland portion of the course, students will return to WCU and will complete final assignments of the course.
LOCATION
Reykjanesbær, Iceland and surrounding areas
ACCOMMODATION
All students will be housed in shared rooms in houses located at the GeoCamp facility where the program will take place.
LANGUAGE
All instruction will be conducted in English. No prior foreign language experience is required.
COURSE INFORMATION
All participants will earn credit for ESS 348 (undergraduate) or ESS 548 (graduate) - International Field Studies, Geology of Iceland, 3 credits. Participants must have completed the pre-requisite course ESS 101.

PROGRAM COSTS
In addition to the regular WCU tuition rates for the 3 credit hour course, all participants will pay a program fee of $3,400, which includes all housing, most meals, excursions, and in-country transportation. All participants will also be billed a non-refundable $100 study abroad application fee through the Bursar's office upon applying to this program and will be required to purchase the mandatory WCU international insurance after acceptance into the program.
Not included in the program fee listed above are the round-trip airfare, additional meals during free time, passport fees, and personal spending money.

FINANCIAL AID
Students are encouraged to apply for the Department of Earth and Space Sciences $1,000 scholarships for majors and Geosciences graduate students enrolled in ESS 348/548. Contact the Program Director listed below for instructions on how to apply for this scholarship. There are a limited number of scholarships available and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
