Program Description:
Spend the second half of your student teaching in Costa Rica! Education Early Grades Prep and Middle Grades Prep majors are eligible to apply to student teach at Academia Teocali in northern Costa Rica.
Guanacaste, Costa Rica
All participants will be staying in the homes of host teachers.
The language of instruction for this program is English. While previous knowledge of Spanish would be helpful, it is not required for participation in this program.
Early Grades Prep mjors will receive credit for EGP 411 (6 credit hours)
Middle Grades Prep majors will receive credit for MGP 411 (6 credit hours)
All participants will pay WCU their regular tuition rates for the 6 credit hours taken on this program as well as a program deposit of $150 (paid upon acceptance into the program).  In addition, students will be charged a $100 study abroad application fee upon submission of their applications. All participants will also be required to purchase WCU's mandatory international health insurance (approximately $100). 

Out-of-pocket costs include round-trip airfare, housing, and food and are estimated to be around $1,600.
As this program is a WCU program, students that qualify for financial aid for a typical term at WCU may also qualify for funding to assist with the cost of this program. Students should consult with Dana Parker ( in the Financial Aid office for specific details about aid eligibility and required forms.  In addition, students may also apply for Study Abroad Travel Awards and PASSHE Travel Awards through the Center for International Programs. Additional information about the application process for these Travel Awards may be found in the scholarships section of the Center for International Programs website.
